Hobbies & Enjoyable Personal Activities |
Enjoy a favourite pastime!

Many people nowadays only have a daily routine revolving around work and family. At the end of the day,
isn't it kind of mundane?
Sure, you bring money back and ensure that your family needs are attended
to. But what about yourself? Don't you think that you deserve some time to do something of interest
on your own for leisure? Answer: You do!
A hobby need not be expensive or time-consuming. Avoid indulging in a demanding one as it may
adversely affect your other commitments, responsibilities and relationships with family members
(they are all important to you.). Do not end up neglecting them!
Having an interesting hobby will provide a sense of something to look forward to doing in your spare
time to take your mind off work and other stressful matters. It may prove to be therapeutic and
relieves pressure from one's commitments. It must not feel like a chore or a dread! It may well
be something to keep yourself preoccupied and your mind sharp and active in retirement. There
would be a sense of satisfaction, achievement, pride and purpose - aside from the pursuit of wealth
and/or career advancement in today's competitive and stressful world.
Of course, if the hobby turned out to be a money-making activity, even better! You can earn money
doing something you like/love doing and excel at doing it such as maintaining a profitable website,
opening a hobby shop, golfing professionally, forming a music band for hire, and etc.
Pick one which is suitable for you, something active (try not to select lazying on the couch
channel-surfing the television), something which you enjoy engaging in. It would be great if
a family member or two share the same interest, as it would allow you to spend time together,
communicate more (sharing and exchanging ideas/opinions), and understand one another better. The
end result would ultimately be a very rewarding and fulfilling experience.
The following are a few hobbies which we have (or had!) with some basic tips and/or achievements to
share out with all. Game enough to take a look? And perhaps try your hand at one of them? :)

| Years ago, right after he retired, Bob Byerwalter's wife surprised him with a brand new wood-carving kit she'd picked up at a late summer garage sale. "She thought I needed a hobby and she thought wood carving would be good for me," he said. Today , the 88-year-old retired engineer is among nearly a dozen men who meet weekly to carve and chat. |
